Check the preview before sending
You can only send payroll when no employee is missing data and no earlier period is still open. Open Payroll > Payroll preview and select the period.
Employees not included: An employee needs a start date and an employee ID. Without them, the status is Enabled - incomplete data and sending and closing are blocked. Click the error message, select Go to settings, and complete the missing fields.
Earlier period still open: Close the previous period first. You can't send the current one before that.
Flagged Overtime Pay Out column: The employee has no RCR or RCO time-off policy assigned. Assign it under Time Off > Settings.
Time summary errors: A banner says a time summary has errors, usually because a time-off policy is missing. Fix it before you send or close.
Send payroll
Click SEND PAYROLL to send all active employees of the period to your provider. The period stays open afterwards.
Click SEND PAYROLL.
Kenjo sends the data (CSV via SFTP for ADP, JSON via API for Deel).
You can keep sending corrections until you close the period.
Correct payroll after sending
If the period is open, correct the data in Kenjo and click SEND CHANGES. Employees whose data changed are highlighted at the top of the table.
Correct the source data: attendance entry, work schedule or employee profile.
Check the highlighted rows.
Click SEND CHANGES.
Provider | What is sent |
ADP FR | A new file with only the employees whose data changed. For one correction, that is only this employee. |
Deel FR | Only the differences to the last sent version. |
If the period is closed, you can't correct it in Kenjo anymore, and you can't reopen the period yourself.
Send payroll for only some employees
Kenjo has no partial send for regular employees: SEND PAYROLL always includes all active employees of the period. The only exception is leavers (see below).
Disable payroll (Payroll > Payroll settings > Employees) is not a way to hold back an employee. The employee stays out of every payroll run until you click Enable payroll again. If you don't re-enable before closing, they are missing for that month. With Deel, disabling after a send can transfer their data to Deel as deleted.
The recommended way is to click SEND PAYROLL once the data is largely complete and send the rest with SEND CHANGES.
Send leavers early
Use Review leavers and Send leavers to send payroll in advance for employees who leave during the period. A leaver is an employee whose Termination date (employee profile, Personal > Confidential) falls within the pay period, first and last day included. The Contract end date doesn't count.
This works for ADP FR, not for Deel FR. With Deel, click Export payroll (xlsx), identify the leavers in the Termination date column of the file and share it with Deel manually. Together with ADP, this is the only way to send individual employees ahead of the rest.
Review leavers is only available when all three points are true:
Condition | What to check |
Termination date | It is filled in and falls within the open payroll period. |
Payroll status | The employee has an active payroll status. A disabled employee doesn't appear in the preview and doesn't count as a leaver. |
Previous periods | All previous payroll periods are closed. |
Click Review leavers.
Select the leavers.
Click Send leavers and confirm with Yes, send. Kenjo sends payroll only for the selected employees.
When the rest is ready, click SEND PAYROLL for the remaining employees.
If the data of a leaver you already sent changes afterwards, they are included in the regular send again. To send the update right away, select the leaver again under Review leavers and click Send leavers.
Close the period
Click CLOSE only after your provider has confirmed the data. Closing can't be undone, and you can't reopen the period yourself.
Click CLOSE.
Confirm with Yes, close. Kenjo sends the last corrections automatically and locks the period.
Handle a failed send
If the automatic send fails, an error message appears with a downloadable file containing the details. Error messages always stay in English, regardless of your account language.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send payroll for only some employees?
No, for regular employees SEND PAYROLL always includes everyone active in the period. Only leavers can be sent early with Send leavers. Send once the data is largely complete and correct with SEND CHANGES.
Can I use "Disable payroll" to hold back an employee for one month?
No. The employee stays out of every payroll run until you click Enable payroll again. If you forget, they are missing when you close the period.
How do I correct one employee after sending?
If the period is open, correct the data in Kenjo and click SEND CHANGES. With ADP FR only changed employees are in the new file. If the period is closed, you can't correct it in Kenjo anymore.
Can I send other employees early besides leavers?
No. Send leavers is the only way to send individual employees in advance.
Can I send a leaver again after I already sent them?
Yes, if their data changed since. Select them again under Review leavers and click Send leavers.
Why is the Review leavers button greyed out?
Either the Termination date is missing or outside the open period, the employee has a disabled payroll status, or an earlier period is still open. Fix the point that applies, then click Review leavers again.
Why can't I send payroll for this month?
Either an earlier period is still open, or employees are missing a start date or employee ID. Close the earlier period or complete the missing data, then try again.
Can I reopen a closed payroll period?
No, not yourself. Only close once your provider has confirmed the data.
