Identify conflicts in Shiftplan

As soon as a conflict exists in your schedule, Shiftplan shows a red-bordered field Shift conflicts at the top of the bar with the number of affected shifts.

  1. Click on Shift conflicts to open the list of affected shifts.

  2. Click on a red-highlighted shift card to see the conflict details.

  3. Adjust the shift or assign a different employee to resolve the conflict.

Note: Conflicts do not automatically block scheduling. Whether a conflict prevents publishing or only warns depends on your configuration under Conflicts & Automations.

Configure Conflicts & Automations

Go to Shiftplan > Settings > Conflicts & Automations. Conflicts are split into two groups: basic conflicts (available for all plans) and attendance conflicts (plan-dependent).

For each conflict type there are two settings:

  • Toggle: Activates or deactivates conflict detection for this type.

  • Checkbox "Allow publishing with this shift conflict": When enabled, shifts can be published despite this conflict — the planner is warned but not blocked. When disabled, the conflict blocks publishing entirely.

Note: Changes to the conflict configuration are applied to all future shifts within 12–24 hours.

Basic conflicts

These three conflicts are available for all Shiftplan plans and are active by default (publishing despite conflict is allowed):

Set up automation for time off conflicts

For the conflict type Overlap with existing time offs you can additionally set an automation rule. The rule applies to two scenarios:

  • Scenario A: A shift is created while an approved time off already exists for that day.

  • Scenario B: A time off is approved on a day that already has scheduled shifts (published and unpublished).

Choose one of three automation options:

What happens

Action required?

Show conflict in Shiftplan

The conflict is shown as a coloured chip on the shift card. The planner must act manually.

Yes — manual action by planner

Shifts are converted to open shifts

The affected shift is automatically converted to an open shift. No manual action required.

No — fully automatic (Connect v4, DSP only)

Shifts are deleted

The affected shift is automatically and permanently deleted. This action cannot be undone.

No — fully automatic (Connect v4, DSP only)

Important: The options Convert shifts and Delete shifts are only available for Connect v4 and DSP HR Admin. Both actions run without an additional confirmation step — choose carefully.

Configure attendance conflicts

These two conflict types are only available for Connect v4 and DSP HR Admin and are disabled by default. They additionally require configuration in attendance settings before they can be activated in Shiftplan.

Note: If prerequisites are not met, Kenjo shows the message "Activate this conflict first in Attendance settings > Policies > Rest rules" and the toggle remains inactive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I publish shifts despite an active conflict?

Yes, if the checkbox Allow publishing with this shift conflict is enabled for that conflict type. The planner receives a warning but can still publish. If the checkbox is disabled, the conflict blocks publishing entirely.

What happens when I create a shift while a time off exists for the same day?

It depends on your automation rule for Overlap with existing time offs. With Show conflict, you see a warning and must act manually. With Convert or Delete, the system reacts automatically — these options are only available for Connect v4 and DSP.

Why can't I activate the attendance conflicts?

There are two possible reasons: your plan (Starter, Growth, or Connect v3) does not support attendance conflicts, or the prerequisites in attendance settings are not yet met. Check Attendance > Settings > Policies > Rest rules for Rest between two shifts, or the employee's work schedule for Legal daily work limit.

How quickly does a change to the conflict configuration take effect?

Changes are applied to all future shifts within 12–24 hours. Already created shifts are updated incrementally during this period.

Are conflicts shown for unpublished shifts too?

Yes. Conflicts are shown directly when creating or editing a shift, regardless of publishing status. For Scenario B (time off approved), unpublished shifts are also taken into account.
