As a DSP owner or HR manager, the first steps in Kenjo are crucial to set up the system correctly from the start. This article guides you through the three most important setup steps: company structure, employee data import, and permission profiles.
Check out our video on Kenjo basic settings and employee data import – it covers everything you need to know for the initial setup steps:

Company setup
Check company data
Navigate to Settings > My Company and verify that the stored information is correct:
Company name and initials
Address and contact details
Create and assign a public holiday calendar
Important: The default calendar set automatically when creating a Kenjo account is usually incorrect. You must create and assign a regional public holiday calendar.
Create a public holiday calendar:
Navigate to Settings > Public Holidays.
Click the (+) symbol.
Give the calendar a name (e.g., "Bavaria" or "North Rhine-Westphalia").
Under Calendar template, select the corresponding federal state – not "Germany", as you need the regional public holidays.
Click Create public holiday calendar.
Assign the public holiday calendar to the company:
Go to Settings > My Company.
Under Public holiday calendar, select the calendar you just created.
Save the change.
Create locations
Under Settings > Locations you can store your work stations (e.g., "Station Bavaria", "Station NRW").
Note: If you operate at multiple locations in different federal states, create a separate public holiday calendar for each location and assign it accordingly.
Areas, departments, and teams (optional)
Under Settings you can also optionally define Areas, Departments, and Teams.
Important to know:
These three categories are independent of each other – teams are not subordinate to departments, and departments are not subordinate to areas.
You don't have to use all three. Choose what makes sense for your organization.
Benefits:
Better filtering options: You can quickly filter employees by role (e.g., Dispatcher, DA).
More precise access control: You can restrict permissions based on company structure even more specifically.
Recommendation for DSPs: It is often sufficient to store roles under Teams, e.g., "Dispatcher", "Delivery Associate", "Non-DA".
Import employee data
Once the company structure is in place, you can add employee data to Kenjo – either via import or manually. Feel free to watch our two tutorial videos.
Import employees from TSM
Tip: To enable English captions, click the CC button in the video player and select English.
Import employees with template
Tip: To enable English captions, click the CC button in the video player and select English.
Start the data import
Navigate to Settings > Data import.
Select Employees as the topic.
Click Import.
Choose import template
You have two options:
Local Kenjo template: For DSPs that have not previously worked with TSM.
TSM template: For DSPs switching from TSM. A detailed step-by-step guide to the TSM export can be found directly in the product as a link in the import dialog.
Upload file and map fields
Download your CSV export from TSM.
Drag and drop the file into the import window or select it from your local folder.
Map the columns: on the left you see the column headers from the file (as they appear in TSM), on the right you select the corresponding Kenjo field (e.g., "Employee number" → "Employee ID").
Fields that are not relevant in Kenjo (e.g., "Cell carrier") can be ignored. To do this, enable the option "Do not import data from unmapped columns".
Complete the import
Click Confirm to start the import.
The import runs in the background. You will receive an automatic email once it is complete.
Note: For the start, it is sufficient to import the master data of your employees first.
Assign permission profiles
Under Settings > Profiles & Permissions you define who can see and edit what in the system.
The profile hierarchy
Profiles are arranged in a hierarchy – from Admin with the most rights down to restricted access:
Admin – Can see and edit everything.
Manager – Access to their own employees and their data.
Employee (Delivery Associate) – Restricted access to their own profile.
Employee (Non-DA) – Like Employee (DA), but for non-drivers.
Restricted access – Minimum permissions.
Recommendation for DSPs:
Admin: DSP owner or HR manager.
Manager: Dispatcher.
Employee (DA): Drivers (Delivery Associates).
Employee (Non-DA): All other employees who are not drivers.
Assign a profile to an employee
Click on the desired profile under Profiles & Permissions.
Select the Members section in the top right.
Search for the employee and select their name.
Custom profiles (optional)
If the standard profiles are not sufficient, you can create your own profiles and assign precise permissions based on company structure (e.g., by location or department).
Tip: For getting started, the predefined profiles are fully sufficient.
Getting Started certificate
After completing the setup, you can see in the Getting Started view how far you have progressed in the onboarding.
Log in to Kenjo
Click the rocket icon in the left menu to go to Getting Started
Select a learning path, for example Company setup (1)
The learning path will be marked with a green checkmark when completed
Track your progress via the percentage indicator (2)
Pause your onboarding checklist at any time; your progress is automatically saved
After completing the entire onboarding checklist, you will receive a certificate by email
Tip: In the following steps, we will guide you through the onboarding checklist. Here you will find useful links for further reading.
You will receive the certificate once you have completed all basic settings.
Important: The certificate is sent as an email – not as a PDF or document. You must upload this email to Amazon.
Next steps & checklist
Once you have completed the setup, we recommend checking the following:
Is the correct public holiday calendar assigned to the company and locations?
Is all employee data correctly imported?
Do Dispatchers have the Manager profile and drivers the Employee profile?
Are the first three items in the Getting Started view green?
Important note: If you want to continue working with Kenjo, please make sure to inform your payroll provider (ADP or SD Worx) about the switch to Kenjo, so they can set up the interface in the background.
