PWA discontinuation

Modified on Mon, 21 Mar, 2022 at 11:04 AM

As of 31st of March 2022, Kenjo will not use a progressive web application (PWA) for its mobile version. Although most of our customers don't use the PWA, we would like to make sure everyone is aware of this change and to help you prepare if you are affected.

What is the PWA app?

The PWA is a type of application process built using common web technologies and intended to work on desktop and mobile devices. When Kenjo's mobile version was first developed, we used PWA to restrict application access to employees who were assigned to the profile Restricted access in Settings > Profiles and Permissions as they would only be able to access Kenjo through our mobile version via m.kenjo.io.

However, as the number of active users for this application are very low and we now have the new Kenjo mobile application, we have taken the decision to focus on the Kenjo native mobile application going forwards.

Are you affected?

The deprecation of the PWA applies only to users assigned to the profile Restricted access in Settings > Profiles and Permissions.

If you don't have employees assigned to this permission, there will be no impact.

What does this mean for you?

To ensure a smooth transition into the PWA deprecation, by March 15th, 2022, we will remove the existing Restricted access profile from Kenjo and replace it with a custom profile that will restrict employees from viewing all other employee data, with the exception of the display name. After March 15th, any employee with this profile will be able to access Kenjo through the desktop version, but they will only see the display names of other employees within the organization and no other personal information of other employees.

Therefore, it is extremely important that any company using the Restricted access profile masks the Display Names of all their employees before March 15th. To change the display name of an employee just go to the Employee > Personal and replace the current display name with a placeholder (Eg: Employee 001).

If you do not have any employees assigned to the profile Restricted access, there is no action needed from your side.

Take into consideration that, in the upcoming weeks, all employees accessing https://m.kenjo.io/ will be redirected to https://app.kenjo.io/

Note: Please bear in mind that this doesn't affect the two native mobile versions (iOS and Android) of Kenjo, which we'll continue to support and develop.
